Our Dances

Bugg
“As Bugg fits most music and is easy to learn it’s no wonder it’s Sweden’s most popular partner dance. It’s mostly danced in Scandinavia and is characterized by it’s quick pace and many spins and turns.”

West Coast Swing
“West Coast Swing (WCS) is the viral partner dance of the last few years, which is danced all over the world. It suits most slower, modern music and is easily recognized by the room for improvisation for both followers and leaders within the dance.”

Argentine Tango
“Argentine tango is to dance what jazz is to music: freeform and difficult perhaps, but also intense, sensual and endlessly expressive. It is a language of the body where two people learn to move as one with each other and as one with the music.”

Bachata Sensual
“Bachata is the innovation of the Bolero, as it combines rhythms like Merengue, Son, and Cha Cha Chá.
The word “Bachata” means party, and it is a traditional folk rhythm from the neighborhoods of the Dominican Republic. It originated as a rhythm for social gatherings in the streets and neighborhoods of this country.” Out of the 4 Bachata styles, the one we teach is Bachata Sensual, which uses many body movements and closed positions.

Salsa Cubana
“Cuban Salsa or Salsa Cubana is the name used to describe the dances of “casino” and “rueda de casino”.
Salsa cubana is a rotational dance. The dancers walk in a circle while doing rotational turn patterns, often tying partner’s arms up into knots that must be then untied. Salsa is always about having fun! It doesn’t matter if you forget a move or mess up, just laugh it off and keep going! The focus of salsa cubana is to be social, with lots of yelling, laughing, and plenty of gyrating hips.”

Our Teachers

The teachers of CSDA are unpaid volunteers from our own community. To put it simple: Students, alumni and other members of our community who offer their time and expertise in the area of dance for the benefit of our dancing community. Expect a wonderful down to earth, non professional setting at our classes and gatherings. After all, we are not dance teachers, we are academics, who love to dance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What languages are the classes thaught in?
Our classes are taught in English.
How do I know if I should sign up as a leader or as a follower?
Anyone can choose to lead or follow—it’s entirely up to you! Traditional gender roles in dance are a thing of the past, and we encourage everyone to try both roles. It’s a great way to improve your skills, understand your partner better, and it’s a lot of fun too!
Do I need a partner to join the classes?
No, you don’t need a partner to sign up! We rotate partners frequently during the class, so you’ll get to dance with many different people.
I am not a student. Can I still join?
Yes, absolutely! While our primary focus is on students, we warmly welcome everyone who is interested in dancing, regardless of age or background.
What should I wear?
No special attire is required! Just wear something comfortable that you can move in and indoor shoes that don’t stick to the floor (smooth-soled shoes are ideal). There is always the option of dancing in socks.
What if I feel nervous about starting?
That’s completely normal! Partner dancing is about having fun and connecting with others. Our teachers and members are supportive and friendly, so you’ll feel welcome from day one.
