ABOUT CSDA

The story of CSDA began with the absence of a truly warm and welcoming social dance community at Chalmers. So we decided to create one! But what is social dance? It’s the type of dance where you are with other people and ask (usually) one of them to dance with you. We wanted an open community, void of old stereotypes of social dance, and where anyone can take any role within said dance. To make the community even more inclusive, we decided right from the start to make the spoken language at all CSDA events English. This means that we have an incredibly vibrant community with people from all over the world, with social dances including Bugg, West Coast Swing, Bachata Sensual, Cuban Salsa, Argentine Tango, Brazilian Zouk, Kizomba (Urban Kiz), and Salsa Rueda. We organize a variety of regular dance courses, workshops, and hangouts.

CSDA Adoption Policy

We know that being new to social dancing can feel intimidating. That’s why we have established the CSDA Adoption Policy. This means that all CSDA dancers are encouraged to take the initiative with newcomers and make them feel welcome in the community. In practice, this means asking the newcomers to dance or simply chatting with them, so that the responsibility for breaking the ice lies with us rather than with them. The goal is to create a warm and inclusive environment where newcomers can feel like they belong, and in turn go on to “adopt” future newcomers themselves.
